Week of October 19 through 20
Monday (all classes): Today we reviewed and revised our descriptive outlines and used them to write a summary of
the article.
Tuesday/Wed: We read the article "Hooked on a myth" . Make sure to annotate and write a brief summary, which are due next class period. We continued our viewing of Blackfish and added to our notes. We finished the classes reading different letters to the editor and noted their use of ethos, pathos, logos and persuasiveness.
Thursday/Fri: Today students were assigned the writing assignment, writing an opinion piece on one of the readings. We wrote our first an second drafts, reviewed some sample letters and commented on their effectiveness, and were assigned to revise with the color-coding worksheet. Final drafts are due tuesday/wednesday, October 27/28.
Week of October 12 through 16
Monday (all classes): Today we completed our "sell it project" using ethos, pathos, logos.
Tuesday/Wed: Today we started our new module. We did a take a stand activity on varies statement about animals and
animal rights. We also complete some pre-reading activities (vocabulary and questions), and read the article "A change of heart about animals" as well as annotated the article.
Thursday/Fri: Today we completed a descriptive outline for the Rifkin article, "A change of heart about animals". We also viewed and took notes on the documentary Blackfish.

animal rights. We also complete some pre-reading activities (vocabulary and questions), and read the article "A change of heart about animals" as well as annotated the article.

Monday (all classes): Today I checked off your questions from the article "Three ways to persuade".
Just a reminder, we are taking the District Interim Assessment in tues./wed.
Tuesday/Wed: District Senior Language Arts Interim Assessment
Thursday/Fri: Today we reviewed Claims and their types; your homework was checked off. We took notes on
Ethos, Pathos, Logos and took a short quiz. We concluded the class by analyzing ads and how they use ethos, pathos,
logos, to persuade you to buy their products.
Week of September 28 through October 2
Monday (all classes): Review Cliches; what they are and how to avoid them. Second drafts due today.
Tuesday/Wed: Revising Day: We looked at sample essays and offered suggestions on what to revise to make
the essay more effective. We then looked at our essays and focused on revising some specific areas of weakness.
Next class will be spent word-processing, editing and turning them in.

Monday (all classes): Today you will be assigned the personal essay (100 pts.) You will be required to complete 2 drafts and the final draft. I will provide due dates this week. We will also be working on writing exercises to help make those essays fantastic.
Tuesday/Wed: Today we read the article "Three ways to persuade" in the ERWC book and annotated it. Make sure to have the questions answered by Monday (9/28). We also worked on first drafts of the Personal Statement essays, a second draft will be due at the end of the period on Thurs/Fri.
